Frequently Asked Questions

We have attempted to answer most of the questions people ask when considering participating in one of our workshops, but if you have any further questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact us.

What is burlesque?
Many students feel a bit embarrassed about asking us what burlesque is so they miss out on all the fun by not booking! So we've come up with an explanation that should help you out.

Burlesque began in the 1840s, but achieved greatest popularity in the 1930s, when people were looking for a distraction from the Depression. It is a working class art form, which was designed to parody the traditions and culture of the upper classes.

It has made a comeback in recent years, with the new generation nostalgic for the glamour of this retro form of entertainment. Neo-burlesque is more about empowering women to feel good about their bodies and creating their own performances. Modern burlesque stars (or stars who have a burlesque element to their work) include: Dita von Teese, Immodesty Blaize, the Pussycat Dolls and Christina Aguilera.

Do I need any experience?
Not at all. Our beginners workshops are designed to take you through the basics step by step so no previous dance or burlesque experience is necessary.

Is it suitable for everyone?
Absolutely. Burlesque workshops are great fun for women of all ages, shapes and sizes.

What should I wear?
Students often ask us what they should wear to burlesque classes. The answer is...it's up to you! However, for your burlesque lesson, you will need a pair of high heel shoes or boots.

To get in the mood, while you learn burlesque, you want clothes that will make you feel sexy and glam (so no gym sweats). You do need clothes that you can move and dance around in. Here are some suggestions for what to wear for burlesque dancing if you're still feeling unsure.

If you have any other questions about what to wear, please call Helen on 07867 627194 and she will be more than happy to help!

What will I learn?
You will leave the workshop with enough elements to and moves to put together your own routine when you get home.

For example you will learn how to:

Who will teach the workshop?
All our workshops are lead by an experienced professional burlesque instructor.

Is there any nudity involved?
No. This is not a stripping workshop and will not include tassel-twirling or nudity.

What other events do you do?
In addition to our beginners burlesque workshops, we also do intermediate and advanced classes and can be booked for hen parties and private functions. We will soon be introducing other workshops such as belly dancing and a fitness class based on salsa dancing. Contact us for more details.

Can men join the workshop?
All our classes and workshops are for women only. Women book with us because they can be sure that they are learning in a women's only environment.

For hen parties, it is just your group, so you would be more than welcome to bring your male friends along.

Can I pay on the day?
Unfortunately we can't take any payments on the day other than in exceptional circumstances which need to be agreed in advance.
